What to do in Cabo with the family….
the Favorite Beaches
My kid’s favorite beach is Medano. Within walking distance to town, this is where you find the most action. You can take a boogie board, a freesbie, or a football for shore side fun. If you want to get in the water … my kids like to jet ski, double parasail, and ride around on the banana boat. For a morning adventure, visit Cabo SUP for paddle board rentals. That’s my personal fav! The guys at Cabo SUP can also get you any of the water sports you need, in addition to kayak rentals if someone isn’t quite certain about the SUP.
For a fun afternoon, you can take a glass bottom boat out around the arch and stop off at Pelican Rock area to snorkel. Bring your own gear – or in busy season you can rent gear out there or use a tour service. We usually bring our own lunch and drinks – however you can always find something good to eat – oysters, doughnuts, fruit, or burritos in high season.
Our favorite beach spots: The Office for breakfast, Baja Cantina, the dive shop by Billygans (kids love their smoothies and nachos), or even the Sand Bar. Billygans or Baja Cantina Beach Club will provide beach lounge chairs and umbrellas with food and drink purchase. Most places will have 2×1 drinks. My favorite – the skinny margaritas while the kids like their “miami vice.” Parent warning: stay away from the Mango Deck during Spring Break – the contests are adult oriented!
If you have a car, check out these other favorite sandy spots. In San Jose, Zippers is a fun beach bar that always is a feel good spot. With a kids play center, satellite TV, rental boards and surf lessons – there is something for everyone!
For kids surf lessons – there is a great program at Cabo Surf Hotel that guarantees they will be surfing!
the Favorite Activities
Zip Lining – We have tried both locations: Costa Azul and Wild Canyon. Both are great, the kids preferred Wild Canyon because of the animal display and the new suspension bridge. The zip lining is the best we have ever done – thrilling for the kids! Be prepared to buy the photos as you cannot take your camera with. Transportation from your hotel is provided.
Sunset Cruise – Cabo Rey is a fun boat for a sunset dinner cruise or a whale watching breakfast (in season) cruise. Perfect up close view of the arch with good food and drinks. For a more private catered adventure or your own charter – sail with Captain Bob.
Swim with the Dolphins – Dolphin Discovery is a must do adventure. In a natural habitat in the marina area of Puerto Los Cabos, it is educational for the kids and provides a great experience for any age. They have free transportation from any hotel.
Other fun things to do:
Horse Back Riding or ATV Riding on the beach (sunset time is best)
Glass Factory (go in the morning, demonstrations until 1 pm)
Cerritos Beach Club (live jazz music in the sand on Sunday afternoons)
Todos Santos (check the events calendar – and must stop into Hotel California for a Mango Margaraita!)
Cabo Pulma (best diving and snorkeling in the area)
Whale Watching (Dec – March)
Release Sea Turtles (Fall)
San Jose Organic Market (Saturday 9-3, Nov – June)
San Jose Art Walk – (Thursday evenings, 5-9pm Nov – June)
