Quivira Golf Club Announces Opening Date

quivira

Unfolding along windswept dunes, sheer cliffs and desert foothills, Quivira Golf Club is poised to redefine the Cabo golf experience when it opens officially on October 1. The 7,224-yard, par-72 layout features stunning panoramas and breathtaking drops from tee to fairway, Quivira offers players more oceanfront exposure than any other course in Los Cabos. All 18 holes feature outstanding vistas of the Pacific (and in the winter months, views of breaching whales). The $40 million golf facility at Quivira, more than eight years in the making, commences at sea level near the rolling surf before climbing to a highest point of more than 350 feet elevation, where the views are a match for the challenge. During the round, players can refresh themselves at four comfort stations interspersed throughout the all-inclusive facility. Some points of interest include:

  • The three-quarter mile drive to the fifth hole, which crosses arroyo-spanning bridges and traces a switchback route up the side of a mountain, has already been dubbed the “Greatest Drive in Golf.”
  • At more than 200 feet above sea level, the tee at the short par-4 fifth hole offers splendid views of the beach and crashing waves far below.
  • The par-3 sixth, its concave cliff-top green carved from the base of a massive dune, is unforgettable.
  • The par-4 18th hole, stretching to 469 yards, is a classic links-style creation that plays to an infinity-edge green overlooking the sea.

SONY DSC

Completing the experience at Quivira Golf Club is a stylish, thatched-roof clubhouse between the first tee and 18th green that offers a large rectangular bar, a casual steakhouse, and ample outdoor seating overlooking the sea. Quivira Golf Club is accessible to guests of the four Pueblo Bonito Oceanfront Resorts and Spas in Los Cabos, and to owners of properties within the Quivira community: Copala, Montecristo Estates Luxury Villas, and Novaispania Residences.

Vacation in Cabo – things to do that are fun for the family!

What to do in Cabo with the family….

IMG_3175

DCIM101GOPRO IMG_1265 IMG_0585 IMG_0873 IMG_1389

the Favorite Beaches

My kid’s favorite beach is Medano.  Within walking distance to town, this is where you find the most action. You can take a  boogie board, a freesbie, or a football for shore side fun.  If you want to get in the water … my kids like to jet ski, double parasail, and ride around on the banana boat.  For a morning adventure, visit Cabo SUP for paddle board rentals.  That’s my personal fav!  The guys at Cabo SUP can also get you any of the water sports you need, in addition to kayak rentals if someone isn’t quite certain about the SUP.

For a fun afternoon, you can take a glass bottom boat out around the arch and stop off at Pelican Rock area to snorkel.  Bring your own gear – or in busy season you can rent gear out there or use a tour service. We usually bring our own lunch and drinks – however you can always find something good to eat – oysters, doughnuts, fruit, or burritos in high season.

Our favorite beach spots:  The Office for breakfast, Baja Cantina, the dive shop by Billygans (kids love their smoothies and nachos), or even the Sand Bar.  Billygans or Baja Cantina Beach Club will provide beach lounge chairs and umbrellas with food and drink purchase. Most places will have 2×1 drinks. My favorite – the skinny margaritas while the kids like their “miami vice.”  Parent warning: stay away from the Mango Deck during Spring Break – the contests are adult oriented!

If you have a car, check out these other favorite sandy spots.  In San Jose, Zippers is a fun beach bar that always is a feel good spot.  With a kids play center, satellite TV,  rental boards and surf lessons – there is something for everyone!

For kids surf lessons – there is a great program at Cabo Surf Hotel that guarantees they will be surfing!

the Favorite Activities

Zip Lining – We have tried both locations: Costa Azul and Wild Canyon.  Both are great, the kids preferred Wild Canyon because of the animal display and the new suspension bridge.  The zip lining is the best we have ever done – thrilling for the kids! Be prepared to buy the photos as you cannot take your camera with.  Transportation from your hotel is provided.

Snorkel Cruise – For a trip out further for snorkeling, try Pez Gato to Playa Santa Maria or Cabo Escape to Chileno Bay.

Sunset Cruise – Cabo Rey is a fun boat for a sunset dinner cruise or a whale watching breakfast (in season) cruise.  Perfect up close view of the arch with good food and drinks. For a more private catered adventure or your own charter – sail with Captain Bob.

Swim with the Dolphins – Dolphin Discovery is a must do adventure. In a natural habitat in the marina area of Puerto Los Cabos, it is educational for the kids and provides a great experience for any age. They have free transportation from any hotel.

Other fun things to do:

Horse Back Riding or ATV Riding on the beach (sunset time is best)

Glass Factory  (go in the morning, demonstrations until 1 pm)

Cerritos Beach Club (live jazz music in the sand on Sunday afternoons)

Todos Santos (check the events calendar – and must stop into Hotel California for a Mango Margaraita!)

Cabo Pulma (best diving and snorkeling in the area)

Whale Watching (Dec – March)

Deep Sea Fishing

Release Sea Turtles (Fall)

San Jose Organic Market (Saturday 9-3, Nov – June)

San Jose Art Walk – (Thursday evenings, 5-9pm Nov – June)

Mexico Business Relationships – How to Do Business in Mexico

What you Should Know When Working with Hispanic Clients

Unknown

  1. Mexico is a country built in connections and family. Because of that, referrals are common and relationships are incredibly important. During the first meeting, be sure to mention the mutual connection as a conversation icebreaker.
  2. Men will shake hands when doing business and in social situations. Women may pat each other on the right forearm or shoulder. Men may want to wait for a woman to initiate a handshake. After a relationship has been established do not be surprised if you are met with a hug.
  3. A typical Mexican business day will start at 9 am and end at 7 pm with very long lunches usually between 2 – 4 pm.  Dinner often occurs at 9 pm.
  4. Accept social invitations as often as possible. Be flexible on the weekends, which are peak times for building relationships and closing deals.
  5. Avoid long periods of eye contact, which can be perceived as insolence, intimacy, or adoration depending on the two parties involved.
  6. Arrive on time, and be prepared to wait for the client.  Time is a flexible commodity and start and end times should be viewed as estimates.
  7. In Mexico, a person’s name includes both the father and the mother’s last name. It is incorrect to call someone by their mother’s last name, so always use the second to the last name when greeting the client.
  8. Title are very important in executive circles. Wait for your client to move to a first name basis before you do.
  9. A phone message or even an email to a client in Mexico may not always get a return back. It is generally expected that you will call them back in a proactive manner.
  10. Though a person is responsible for his or her actions, the prevailing consideration will most likely be the best interest of the group or family.

How to Dial Toll Free Numbers from Mexico

Dialing toll-free numbers from Mexico typically involves entering a different code for each three-digit prefix, such as 800, 877 or 888. Depending on how you call, such as from a personal cell phone, pay phone or a hotel lobby, you may be charged for placing an international call even though you are dialing a toll-free number. This varies depending on where you travel in Mexico. For international dialing, such as to place a call in the United States to report a lost or stolen credit card, you must enter the 001 prefix before the main number.

images

Step 1)   Dial 001, which is the international dial code to call the United States, when you have a dial tone.
Step 2)  Dial 880 if your toll-free number begins with 800.
Dial 881 for an 888 number.
Dial 882 for an 877 number.
Dial 883 for all 866 numbers.
These codes only apply to calls from Mexico.
Step 3) Dial the main seven-digit telephone number normally

Copala at Quivira Los Cabos – A Master Planned Ocean and Golf Community

Print

Copala at Quivira Los Cabos

Copala at Quivira Los Cabos is the first full ownership real estate at Sunset Beach. The gated community covers over 24 acres on the Pacific coast. The community consists of seven towers of condominiums and 86 homes. The terraced layout for the placement of the residences allows for optimal enjoyment of the expansive golf and ocean views. Phase One is scheduled for completion in 2015/2016. Phase Two and Three will complete in 2016/2017. Copala is located on the 16th fairway of the Jack Nicklaus Signature Quivira golf course – which boasts the most ocean front holes in the entire Los Cabos area.

MODEL NIZA

The Design

The construction design is influenced by the early California hacienda style with red tile roofs, wrought iron details, stone facings and cantera stone finishes. The updated hacienda style homes and condominiums will come standard with granite countertops, Mexican marble flooring and baseboards, alder doors and millwork, aluminum sliding doors and windows, spacious terraces, and quality appliances. The layouts encourage outdoor living and allow for the enjoyment of the prevailing Pacific Ocean breeze.  The homes offer 5 floor plans of three and four bedroom homes all with roof top decks to take advantage of the wide ocean views.  The condominiums include one, two, and three bedrooms from a garden level to a penthouse level.

Infrastructure & Services

The infrastructure and services being installed at Copala meet the standards of modern resort and residential communities in Mexico.

Water: Both potable and irrigation water are suppled to Copala by a number of developer owned deep wells and the city’s desalinization plant. Irrigation water is also stored on-site until needed.

Phone, Internet and TV: Phone service is provided by fiber optic cables. Every residence will have what is required to contract telephone & internet services through the provider of choice. The TV locations will have hidden wiring for satellite TV along with a pre-wired network for data and internet.

Electricity: Mexico operates on the same 110-volt 60 cycles as the United States and Canada. The Federal Electric Commission provides service to Copala.

Sewer: To eliminate on-site waste water, a number of water treatment plans will be installed. In keeping with the developers commitment to ecological preservation, no wastewater will be discharged into the ocean. Instead, the treated water will be recycled and used for irrigation on the golf course and landscaping.

Direct Financing

Ownership at Copala is simple with direct financing being offered by the developer. Buyers are pre-approved with no reporting to U.S. credit agencies, as to not affect your investment ratios in the United States. With 50% paid during the construction period, the remaining amount can be financed for 10 years at 6% with no pre-payment penalties. A great solution for leveraging your investment.

Planned Amenities

The Copala Community Club House will have a complete gym, exercise decks for Yoga, Pilates, and Meditation, pool, steam room, kids playgrounds, Cafe and bike/walking paths.

The Quivira Beach club will be a place for enjoyment of the coastal lifestyle with beach cabanas with flat screen TV’s & audio systems, outdoor grill pavilion for dinner parties, beach fire pits lit nightly, pool, private beach massage services, Kid’s Club, casual dining at Oceanside Bar & Grill, coffee bar with wireless internet and telescopes for star gazing and whale watching.

The Golf Clubhouse will have a Pro-Shop, Grill Restaurant & Bar, and special private areas for golf members. The practice facility will include a driving range, pitching, chipping, as well as a 15,000 sq ft putting area.

Transportation will be provided as a courtesy to owners and guest to travel throughout the resort community. Connections can also be made every hour from 10 am to 10 pm to the downtown resorts to enjoy shopping, restaurants, and beach time.

The Quivira community will also enjoy the Good Life which includes an optional membership to a Yacht Club, Wine Club, Organic Gardens and Vineyards, a Holistic Club, and Art Gallery.  Truly… a treasure of a lifetime!

Quivira Los Cabos – Premier Master Planned Golf & Ocean Community

Project Overview

Quivira Los Cabos is an multi-billion dollar Master-Planned Community on 1850 acres and is one of the developers most challenging project yet. The pristine, untouched land facing the Pacific Ocean was a secret that no one knew. There was a vision for privacy, elegance, security, and beauty in a total master planned resort within a resort with villas, estates, and a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course.

The project started back in 1998 with no roads, no power, no water in a hilly, windy, desert. The developer saw the beauty in the site with the miles of pristine white beaches and the paradise that could be created from his vision.  “If we build it they will come” became the motto and with the best architects & landscape designers and resort first opened in 2002.

The master planned vision consists of million dollar residences, shopping, and park & recreation centers for a total resort residential community.

The Developer

Ernosto (Neto) Coppel Kelly in 2011, was appointed as Mexico’s voice of tourism. He was instrumental in transforming Cabo San Lucas from a 3rd World Country to a first class vacation and resort destination.  For his vision, dedication, and his charismatic personality he is been fondly called the “King of Cabo.” Ernesto Coppel Kelly is the founder and head of Pueblo Bonito celebrating over 26 years with two resorts in Mazatlan and four in Los Cabos. He contributes heavily to the communities where the resorts are located in beautification of surroundings and environment protection, plus he is highly claimed for his philanthropist contributions to local organizations.  To start the construction of the Sunset Beach resorts, he paved the road from Squid Roe to Sunset Beach at a cost of $4m. Neto also helped organize the billboard and graffiti campaign to clean up Cabo San Lucas.

Location

Quivira Los Cabos is located in the heart of the Sunset Beach just five minutes from Downtown Cabo San Lucas and 40 minutes from the San Jose del Cabo International Airport. As the second most popular tourist destination in Mexico, Los Cabos is just a few hours away by air from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Dallas, and other major cities in the United States.

Los Cabos

Los Cabos is a premiere resort destination at the tip of the Baja California Sur.  Cabo San Lucas started as a shelter for pirates and grew to become the heart off the in-scene of Los Cabos with most of the activity centering around the marina. It’s sister city, San Jose Del Cabo, founded as Mision San Jose Anuiti de las Palmas in 1730, is now gracious and charming. Los Cabos is Mexico’s premier resort destination and is known for stellar sport fishing, championship golf, pristine beaches, and endless natural beauty with a easy going yet sophisticated atmosphere with year round temperatures of 78 degrees.

Schools in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

A common question I get from families with school aged children exploring the reality of living in Mexico… is what about the schools?  How does education work in Mexico?  What kinds of schools are available in Los Cabos?

Schooling in Mexico is governed by the Secretariat of Public Education (Spanish:Secretaría de Educación Pública). Education standards are set by this Ministry at all levels except in “autonomous” universities chartered by the government (e.g., UNAM). Accreditation of non-public schools is achieved by a compulsory approval and registration with this institution.

mallory lab

The 1917 Constitution provides that training should avoid privileges of religion, and that one religion or its members may not be given preference in schooling over another. Religious instruction is prohibited in public schools; however, religious associations are totally free to maintain private schools, which get no public funds.

In Mexico, basic education is typically divided in three steps:

Primary School

The terms “Primary School” or “Elementary School” usually corresponds to primaria, comprising grades 1-6, when the student’s age is 6 to 12 years old. It starts the basic obligatory schooling system.

In Spanish, the general term for “school” is escuela, but in Mexico, it is common to use escuela for state-owned schools, which are the majority, while the term colegio is kept for non-public schools, usually charging higher tuition fees.

Junior High

The terms “Junior High School” or “Middle School” normally corresponds tosecundaria, comprising grades 7-9, when the student’s age is 12 to 15 years old. It is part of the basic compulsory education system; it follows primary school, and comes before proper “high school” (preparatoria).

At this level, far more specialized subjects may be taught similar to Physics and Chemistry, and World History.

High School

The term “High School” (United States)) generally corresponds to preparatoria orbachillerato, comprising grades 10-12, when the student’s age is 15 to 18 years old. it must incorporate a national subject at least.

Preparatoria customarily consists of 3 years of schooling, divided into six semesters, with the first semesters having a typical curriculum, and the latter ones making it possible for some degree of specialization, either in physical sciences (electricity, chemistry, biology, and so on.) or social sciences (commerce, philosophy, law, etc.).

The term preparatoria is most frequently used for institutions which provide a three-year schooling program which “prepares” the student with common know-how to go on learning at a university. In contrast, the term bachillerato is most often used for institutions which provide vocational training, in two or three, so the graduate student can get a job as a skilled worker, for example, an assistant accountant, a bilingual secretary or an electronics technician. are to do what they went to school for and what they want to be like to be a teacher, secretary, or anything else.

Los Cabos has no shortage of schools each public and private.  Rest assured, there are definitely great options when choosing education in the Los Cabos area.  And, not every family has the same considerations or goals when determining what is best for their children – even children within the same family will have different considerations in choosing the right education path.

1.  What are your requirements?  Location, activities after school, sports, curriculum, hours, special needs, etc.

2. Do some research as to what is offered.  Most schools have websites and Facebook pages — these are schools that made our list to explore initially:

  • Collegio Papalotl Nursery – High School located in El Tezal Colony (624) 14 44311
  • Baldor Kinder – High School located behind Home Depot (624) 10 43929
  • Colegio El Camino Nursery – High School located in the El Pedregal Colony (624) 14 32100
  • Colegio Amaranto Nursery – Primary (6th grade) located in the El Tezal Colony 624 14 58700
  • Instituto Peninsular Jr. High & High School located in the El Tezal Colony (624) 10 43455
  • Centro Escolar Picacho Preschool – High School located at KM 24.8 in the corridor (624) 14 45595

3. Plan a visit to the schools – and take the kids.  Most schools will even allow children to attend a day to “shadow” so you can try it out and really have the children experience a day.  Then make your decision.

It’s ok to change schools — we did at a bi-mester break as the school changed it’s program mid year and our kids needs changed.  Be flexible!
